Thorough Information Security

Canon Medical Systems considers information security a critical management issue and has established a management system for group-wide efforts based on the fundamental philosophy of the Information Security Regulations. This system includes measures against internal information leaks, measures against external cyberattacks, security measures for production equipment, and information security education to improve employee awareness.

Additionally, Canon Medical Systems has obtained external certification of ISO27001, an international standard for building and operating information security management systems, for the Information Security Department and Healthcare IT Department.

Canon Medical Systems has appointed a Chief Information Officer (CIO) who is responsible for information security decision-making. The Information Systems Division is responsible for managing information security across the entire group.
In 2024, we conducted information security audits targeting our group companies.

Risk Management and Compliance

Canon Medical Systems Corporation has formed a Risk and Compliance Committee, with the President serving as the Chief Risk Officer (CRO). The committee addresses issues related to the Canon Medical Systems Standards of Conduct, including preventing significant crisis risks, ensuring compliance, and maintaining information security in technical, production, and sales activities. It also collaborates with relevant subcommittees, such as the CPL* Committee, as needed for specific responses to major risk cases. Various departments responsible for risks associated with business activities, such as Manufacturing, Development, Sales, Service, Legal Affairs, and other administrative departments, oversee and support the risk management activities of their respective departments and group companies within their respective jurisdictions.

Moreover, each department and group company independently establishes and operates its risk management system within this framework, reporting the outcomes of its activities to the Risk Compliance Committee. The Risk Compliance Committee receives these reports, assesses the status of the establishment and operation of the risk management system, and resolves the results of that evaluation at a Board of Directors meeting.

Working to Provide Safe and Secure Medical Solutions

Safety
To ensure that our customers and patients can always use our products safely, we evaluate the safety of our products by ISO 14971 (Medical devices – Application of risk management to medical devices). Usability engineering is applied to enhance product safety by taking into account differences in patient physique, age, sex, and other factors, as well as the individual customer's usage environment. We have established our safety standards that exceed those set by international standards (e.g., IEC, ISO) and other regulations, and apply them to our products.

Smartness
We provide high-quality products from the factory stage to ensure that our customers and patients can always use our products with confidence. We have a temperature- and humidity-controlled chamber and an anechoic chamber on our factory premises that are capable of testing even large pieces of equipment. These are used for conducting environmental tests and EMC tests to ensure high product reliability from the design stage. We also strive to maintain quality and performance throughout the entire life cycle by providing services such as a 24-hour call center and periodic inspections. The UX (user experience) based design pursues ease of use and contributes to smooth examination and diagnosis.

Satisfaction
Based on a thorough understanding of the needs of clinical sites, we will support our customers by providing optimal solutions realized by the latest and best technologies. We will always be close to our customers and patients, ensuring that they are highly satisfied in using our products and that patients have confidence in visiting hospitals where our products are installed.

Swift Response to Product Safety Issues
We have established a quality management system where employees, including sales and service personnel, who become aware of information concerning an accident or problem involving a Canon Medical Systems product, can immediately alert the quality management department and corporate executives. Based on the information reported by employees, the CPL Committee* quickly determines actions to take. In the event of an accident attributable to a product that is likely to recur, we immediately inform customers of the danger, promptly report the incident to the relevant authorities, and implement countermeasures as soon as possible. Information concerning a Canon Medical Systems product accident and countermeasures will be disclosed on the website of the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) of Japan, as well as on our website.
* CPL Committee: CPL is an abbreviation combining CL (contractual liability) and PL(product liability). The CPL Committee, chaired by the Chief Quality Executive, promptly determines measures for dealing with product accidents and quality issues.
