TOKYO, May 16, 2005 - Featuring the world's most advanced multislice CT technology available, Toshiba Medical Systems Corp. today announced that the company has achieved a major milestone with more than 100 installations of its Aquilion™4-detector CT systems in healthcare institutions and imaging centers worldwide.
As the industry's best performing 64-slice CT system, the Aquilion's advanced features and diagnostic imaging capabilities provide physicians with a powerful tool that is ideal for applications requiring precise clinical information. The system's superior clinical performance has been adopted by leading institutions around the world, including Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Imaging Center (BIDMC) in Boston, Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging Center (SDMI) in Las Vegas, Charité University of Berlin, Fujita Health University in Japan and Beijing Anzhen in China.
"The installation of more than 100 Aquilion 64-detector CT systems is a testament to the system's proven clinical performance, speed and diagnostic accuracy," said Doug Ryan, director, CT Business Unit, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc.
"Major healthcare institutions around the globe have selected the Aquilion 64 to not only deliver to their patients the highest level of care using the most advanced diagnostic imaging technology available but also to maintain their positions as leading-edge facilities in competitive healthcare markets."
Featuring the most advanced multi-detector CT technologies available, the Aquilion 64-slice CT is built on the same platform as the Aquilion 32, utilizing Toshiba's unique 64-row Quantum detector, the most sophisticated CT detector that enables high-speed, high-resolution imaging with the lowest noise and superior anatomical coverage. There are also more than 40 Aquilion 32-slice scanners installed worldwide, which are easily field upgradeable to Aquilion 64-slice CT scanners.
The Aquilion 64's superior multi-detector design produces high-speed, high-resolution imaging with the best low contrast resolution at the lowest dose. The Quantum detector enables the Aquilion CT scanner to acquire 64 simultaneous slices of 0.5 mm with each 400-millisecond gantry revolution. The result is precise isotropic imaging of any region of the body during a breath-hold under ten seconds.
