To our valued customers, we would like to express our gratitude for your continued support and for using our products and services.
In October, we celebrate the company Memorial Day. This is a special day for us because in October 2003 we made a strategic decision to unify all our members involved in development, manufacturing, sales, and service so they could work in even closer cooperation. In another important milestone in our history, our company name changed to Canon Medical Systems this last January. We are looking forward to further developing our business as a core driver in the growth of Canon Group's healthcare business.
Since the establishment of our company, diagnostic imaging systems has been our main focus and we have been a leader in this field not only in Japan but in all parts of the world. In recent years, we have expanded our business domains to include healthcare IT, in vitro diagnostics, bioscience, and other advanced technologies. We continue to work to further expand our business in the global market. As an important step toward this goal, in July we entered the cancer genome testing business through the acquisition of Actomed Co., Ltd., a high-quality clinical sequencing services provider that utilizes a genome database specific to an Asian population. Furthermore, we continue to strengthen our presence in the field of in vitro diagnostics with, for example, the development of Japan's first Zika virus RNA detection reagent and an influenza test reagent.
Today, our business environment is rapidly changing. We will ensure that we can respond quickly to these changes by strengthening and expanding our business while generating good synergies within the Canon Group.
Under our corporate philosophy "Made for Life", we will continue our efforts to contribute to healthcare across the globe based on our steadfast commitment to promoting health and the protection of life.
