Tokyo, June 30, 2008 - Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation ("TMSC"), a member of the Toshiba group of companies, today announced that Dr. Kenichi Komatsu was appointed President and CEO of the company at the annual shareholders' meeting of TMSC held today.
Dr. Komatsu, formerly Executive Vice President of TMSC, succeeds Mr. Masamichi Katsurada, who will become an Adviser to the Board of TMSC and an Adviser to Toshiba Corporation.
Dr. Komatsu joined Toshiba Corporation in 1978, and his career prior to becoming president was largely devoted to R&D in medical systems. As Executive Quality Leader and Chief Technology Executive, positions he held from 1999 to 2005, he provided effective leadership in promoting management innovation and corporate restructuring. For the last three years, Dr. Komatsu has been responsible for the global sales as a senior executive of TMSC.
TMSC was established in October 2003, when the medical systems operations of Toshiba Corporation, became the independent group company specialized in medical diagnostic systems, in order to form a solid basis for global business development. Mr. Katsurada served as the president and CEO of TMSC from November 1999. During the period, he implemented a series of strategic programs that successfully reshaped and reinforced the company's business foundations and organizational structure. The results of his leadership can be seen in the steady expansion of TMSC's global operations.
Succession of the presidency to Dr. Komatsu means that TMSC is now ready to move onto the next phase of company growth, based on the solid foundation established by Mr. Katsurada.
