Toshiba manufactures milestone 1000th 320-row area detector CT, Aquilion ONE.

Otawara, Japan, July 1st, 2015 — achieving a significant milestone in the advancement of computed tomography (CT) in the practice of diagnostic imaging, Toshiba Medical Systems Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tochigi Prefecture Otawara President: Takiguchi Toshio) announced the production of the 1000th Aquilion ONE™, launched in 2007 as the world’s first 320-row area detector CT, able to scan 16cm at once.

The memorable 1000th Aquilion ONE will be shipped to the new Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) which is located in South Australia State, Australia and is scheduled to open in April 2016. The new RAH will be one of the most technologically advanced hospitals in Australia. “We are extremely pleased to be able to support the RAH’s vision of delivering the highest levels of patient care by providing state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging technology such as the Aquilion ONE ViSION Edition.” said Rob Walczynski, National CT Manager, Toshiba Australia,

Aquilion ONE was introduced at the Radiological Society of North America in November 2007, and immediately drew worldwide attention as a CT that can scan a whole organ such as the heart or brain in one rotation with a 16cm detector which consists of 320 rows of the industry’s finest 0.5 mm detector elements. This dynamic volume CT system has revolutionized the use of CT, not just for morphology, but also for dynamic and functional diagnosis. These new applications have been developed in close collaboration with clinicians from all over the world.

Aquilion ONE has evolved into a system employing the latest dose reduction techniques such as Adaptive Iterative Dose Reduction 3D (AIDR 3D) and cutting edge technology in the PUREVision detector, the latest ViSION edition includes faster rotation speed of 275ms, and state of the art applications. With these features, the Aquilion ONE series is installed in leading institutions in many countries, which has resulted in shipment of 1000 systems. State-of-the-art technology developed for Aquilion ONE has migrated to the entire CT line-up including Aquilion™ PRIME, Aquilion Lightning™ and Alexion™ systems. In particular, AIDR 3D is now a standard feature on the entire Toshiba CT range because Toshiba believes that dose reduction should not be an option.
