TOSHIBA MEDICAL SYSTEMS CORPORATION ACCELERATES ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Because we believe that preserving the irreplaceable global environment is a vital issue for management, Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation (Headquarters: Otawara, Tochigi, Japan; President: Satoshi Tsunakawa), has established an environmental management promotion system and is committed to continuous environmental activities.

We are carrying out a variety of activities, including reducing our environmental impact by improving the efficiency of production processes, creating environmentally conscious products through development of technologies for improved environmental performance, reducing waste based on the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" concept, and implementing modal shift.

These activities have been highly evaluated. We were the first medical equipment manufacturer to acquire "Eco Rail Mark" certification (note 1), and our CT system and diagnostic ultrasound system were the first medical equipment to receive Eco-Products Awards (note 2).

In addition, we are establishing an Environment Management Department as part of an organizational change (April 1st, 2011). This is a specialized organization for establishing long-term policy and planning measures concerning environmental management and for promoting company-wide environmental activities. We will further accelerate our environmental management with the aim of contributing to the solution of global environmental issues.

(Note 1) In November 2009, Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation acquired the Eco Rail Mark, jointly established by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Railway Freight Association.

(Note 2) The 64-row multislice CT system Aquilion 64 received the Chairperson's Award in the 2007 Eco-Products Awards.
The diagnostic ultrasound system Aplio MX received the Chairperson's Award in the 2010 Eco-Products Awards.
